Trends in bespoke furniture: kitchens, wardrobes and spaces designed to last

Trends change, but when we design a kitchen, wardrobe or any piece of bespoke furniture, some decisions should be made to last for many years.

At Aina Vallés, we prefer to think about design in a way that goes beyond what’s currently in fashion: functional spaces, materials that age beautifully and furniture designed around the way each person lives.

These are some of the trends we’re seeing most at the moment and which, precisely because of their timeless nature, we believe will continue to make sense for many years to come.

1. Less on display, more organisation

We’re increasingly looking for spaces that feel visually calmer. This doesn’t mean owning fewer things, but rather thinking more carefully about where to store them.

In a kitchen, for example, we can integrate small appliances behind pocket doors, create hidden breakfast areas or design specific interiors for the things we use every day.

The same applies to wardrobes and walk-in closets: a well-planned interior layout makes better use of the available space and helps keep everything organised.

The trend isn’t about hiding everything, but deciding what we want to see and what we’d prefer to store away.

2. Natural materials and calming tones

Wood, stone, earthy tones, warm whites and textured finishes continue to play an important role.

In Mallorca, these materials work particularly well with the island’s light and Mediterranean architecture.

Rather than following a particular colour trend, we prefer to find combinations that make sense within each home and will continue to work aesthetically for years to come.

3. Kitchens becoming increasingly integrated into the home

In many homes, the kitchen is no longer a separate room but has become part of the main living space.

As a result, kitchen furniture is increasingly designed as a continuation of the rest of the home: integrated appliances, work areas that can be concealed, furniture that connects the kitchen and living room, or finishes that are repeated throughout different spaces.

The aim is to create a home that feels more coherent and visually calm.

4. Wardrobes designed from the inside out

A wardrobe can look beautiful on the outside but quickly become impractical if the interior hasn’t been carefully planned.

That’s why we place increasing importance on understanding what each person actually needs to store before deciding on drawers, hanging rails, shelves, shoe storage or accessories.

Bespoke furniture allows us to make use of the full height of a room, adapt to irregular walls and solve difficult corners – something particularly useful in many homes in Sóller and the Serra de Tramuntana.

5. Laundry rooms that are also part of the design

The laundry room has evolved from a purely functional space into another carefully considered part of the home.

Integrated washing machines and dryers, storage for cleaning products, areas for laundry, work surfaces and spaces for drying or ironing can all be incorporated into a single design.

And being practical doesn’t mean it can’t also be beautiful.

Materials, lighting and furniture can follow the same aesthetic found throughout the rest of the home.

6. Designing to live better, not to follow a trend

For us, this is probably the most important trend of all.

Before deciding what a piece of furniture will look like, we think about how it will actually be used.

How you cook. What you need to store. What you want within easy reach. What currently bothers you about your home. Or what could help you keep it more organised.

Because bespoke design isn’t simply about manufacturing a piece of furniture to specific dimensions.

It’s about creating a solution designed for a particular person, a particular home and a particular way of living.

Furniture that makes sense today and for many years to come

From our studio in Sóller, we design, manufacture and install bespoke kitchens, wardrobes, walk-in closets, laundry rooms and other custom-made furniture throughout Mallorca.

We aim to create functional, calm and long-lasting spaces where every decision has a purpose.

Because when a piece of furniture is well designed, it doesn’t need to follow every trend to continue working beautifully over time.
