Ideas for integrating pillars into your home’s design

🏡 1. Making the pillar part of the furniture

One of the best ways to conceal a pillar is to integrate it into a custom-made piece of furniture. Here are some ideas:
✔️ Cupboards and shelves: Surrounding the pillar with a built-in cupboard or a custom-made bookcase will make it go unnoticed.

✔️ Kitchen bars or islands: In open kitchens, the pillar can be incorporated into a peninsula or island, using it to support the worktop.

✔️ Living room furniture: A pillar in the living room can form part of a TV unit or a sideboard, giving it an extra function.

🎨 2. Integrate with cladding and materials

If the pillar is exposed, you can play with different materials to make it blend in better with the environment:
✔️ Paneled in wood or porcelain materials to give continuity with other elements in the home.

✔️ Paint in the same colour as the wall to make it go unnoticed.

✔️ Textured coverings to turn it into a decorative feature, such as exposed brick or microcement.

3. Use it as a decorative element

Instead of hiding it, we can highlight it with:

✔️ Vertical mirrors that reflect the light and make the space appear larger.

✔️ Integrated lighting, placing LED strips on the sides or wall lights that elegantly highlight its presence.

✔️ Suspended shelving, to make the most of the structure without overloading the space.

🌿 4. Incorporate vegetation or natural elements.

If the pillar is in a communal area, an original way of integrating it is by means of plants or vertical gardens. You can place hanging planters or use wooden structures with vegetation to give it a more natural and decorative look.

🏠 5. Turn it into a visual separation of spaces

In open spaces, pillars can be useful to delimit areas without the need for walls.

✔️ In an open kitchen, it can mark the transition between the cooking area and the dining area.

✔️ In a living room, it can serve as an element that visually divides the living and dining areas.
