When we think of a Mediterranean kitchen, it’s easy to picture natural wood, soft colours and materials inspired by nature. However, Mediterranean style is much more than a combination of finishes.
For me, a Mediterranean kitchen is one that conveys calm, invites you to enjoy the moment and is designed to make everyday life easier.
After many years of designing bespoke kitchens in Mallorca, these are the five principles I always keep in mind.

1. Choose materials that age beautifully
Natural wood, handcrafted ceramics and stone-look countertops offer a beauty that lasts over time.
These are materials that don’t follow trends but become part of a timeless design.
2. Let natural light take centre stage
Light is one of the defining elements of Mediterranean design.
Whenever possible, I maximise natural light by using light colours and avoiding heavy compositions.
A bright kitchen always feels more spacious and comfortable.

3. Design fewer cabinets, but make them work better
A kitchen doesn’t need more cabinets.
It needs every cabinet to have a purpose.
When storage is carefully designed, organisation comes naturally and the kitchen becomes much easier to use.
4. Balance materials carefully
Wood, stone, ceramics and subtle metal details work beautifully together.
The key is to avoid visual clutter and create a warm, simple and balanced atmosphere.
5. Design around the way you’ll live in your kitchen
This is probably the most important part of every project.
We don’t design kitchens just to look beautiful.
We design them to support everyday life.
Cooking with family, enjoying a quiet breakfast, sharing conversations while preparing meals or simply enjoying the space.
Because the most beautiful kitchen isn’t the one that attracts the most attention.
It’s the one that makes you want to stay.

A project that reflects this philosophy
The kitchen featured in this article brings together many of these ideas: natural materials, clean lines, soft colours and a layout designed to enjoy the space with calm and comfort.
